The rent was almost double any other apartments in the area and excluded any utilities. This and the fact that the bedrooms and living area were extremely small offset any benefit to living there. We were in a tight situation and we paid the price!
We had a short-term lease on a 2BR, 1BA apartment and for the area, was charged an outlandish rate. On top of that, to secure the apartment we had to pay the remaining month's rent plus one month's rent. When signing the contract we were informed that we could stay as long as needed but that a 30 day notice would be necessary to get 100% of the security deposit. Prior to paying our last month's rent we gave the landlord a 30+ day notice. However, we ended up leaving prior to the given date, and were penalized by only receiving half our deposit to compensate the landlord for leaving early. All told we ended up paying for a four month lease (excluding the astronomical price) and only lived in the said apartment for 3 months time.
Awful. Absolute jerk. I'll never go back.
